This genus comprises 12 species from China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, and Mexico and are some of the most unique-looking spider species. They are famous for their opisthosomal discs, which bear ornate patterning. The opisthosomal discs are employed in a defensive strategy, where the spiders retreat into their burrow and utilize the discs as a false bottom, thereby preventing entry by would-be invaders.
These are field-collected sub-adults/adults. Due to this, there is the chance of cosmetic imperfections such as missing legs, etc. However, all specimens listed for sale are eating, and issues, if there are any, are cosmetic only. They do not affect the health or well-being of the animals in question and will correct themselves after one or two molts. There is also the possibility that any mature adults may be gravid and could produce offspring.
