This is a small peripatid endemic to the Caribbean island of Barbados. Like other peripatids, it is a tropical, viviparous, predatory species that hunts with an adhesive slime ejected from glands on its head. The slime traps its prey, which is consumed once the adhesive has immobilized it. They are highly photophobic, typically only active on the surface at night and hiding during daylight hours.

Due to their permeable skin, similar to amphibians, they are highly susceptible to contaminants and desiccate easily. They must be kept in moist, pristine environments, free from potentially harmful contaminates. This includes using distilled water and only distilled water for all aspects of their enclosure and regular husbandry. Due to this, they are also best left undisturbed and not touched directly. Before interacting with them or their enclosure during maintenance, you should also ensure your hands are washed with mild, unscented soaps and free from any lotions or other things that could contaminate their environment.

We have been culturing this species successfully for close to 4 years, making us one of the most successful with this species worldwide.

Shipping

Shipping method:

Shipping is offered throughout the continental US (48 states) through FedEx Priority Overnight. Shipments are dropped off on Tuesdays or Wednesdays for next-day arrival and required to be picked up in person at your closest FedEx Ship Center.

We offer expo pick-up and DFW local meet-up options so you can save on shipping. See Expo Schedule for details.

What to expect after placing an order:

After you place an order on our website, we will contact you within 12 hours to let you know the delivery date and FedEx pick-up location. Please respond and let us know if that works for you. The package will NOT be shipped until we have your confirmation. A tracking number will be provided on the day of shipment.

There will be times when shipping must be delayed due to weather, our schedule, or if a tarantula you ordered has recently molted or appears to be about to molt. You will be notified if that happens, and we will work out another date.

Carrier delays happen, so please ensure you or someone you know will be available to pick up your package, even if it's 1-3 days late.

Live Arrival Guarantee (LAG):

Buddha Bugs offers LAG but ONLY when the below conditions are met:

  • "Freebies" are not covered by LAG.
  • For the safety of the animals and to ensure the best chance of live arrival, orders must be shipped to your nearest authorized FedEx Ship Center and held for pickup.
  • Package must be picked up from FedEx within 4 hours of arrival. Please bring a valid ID with you.

  • In the unlikely event of a DOA, we require notice and evidence within 1 hour of delivery/pick up. You must provide a clear photo/video of the deceased specimen. Refunds will not include shipping costs, and replacements may not always be available.

  • ANY DEVIATION OF THIS CAN RESULT IN LAG VOID

We can offer home delivery upon request, but LAG cannot be guaranteed due to the unpredictability of this shipping method.

If a carrier delay causes your animals to arrive on a day other than originally scheduled, we will still honor the LAG if the delay does not exceed (3) days past the originally scheduled delivery day.

Please remember that FedEx DOES NOT reimburse Buddha Bugs for lost packages or the loss of any live animals. We take as many precautions as we possibly can to ensure your new pets arrive safely.
