This is a medium-sized species endemic to the Paraguaná Peninsula in Northwestern Venezuela. Although no formal publication has been written on its population, it is assumed to be in peril due to its small fragmented range, urbanization, and overgrazing. 

This species is subject to an impressive ontogenetic color change. Spiderlings sport a black and orange opisthosoma pattern, beige legs except for the femurs and tarsi (which are black), and a gold and black carapace. As they grow, they go through several intermediate stages. Once reaching subadults, the legs have turned to a beautiful blue, with the coloration and patterning on the opisthosoma being entirely replaced by orange hairs and the carapace turning a blue-green. Their impressive coloration, ease of care, and insatiable appetite have made them a hobby favorite.
