This large terrestrial species was initially described from Northern Uruguay and split from Grammostola anthracina in Montes de Oca, L., D'Elía, G. & Pérez-Miles, F. (2016). It is likely that they are also found in the neighboring Brazilian state of Rio Grande Do Sul. Due to the previously poor description of Grammostola pulchra until the recent redescription in Pittella, R. S. et al. (2023), the sympatric distribution of the two species, and the fact that Grammostola quirogai was described decades after specimens labeled ‘Grammostola pulchra’ first entered the hobby, it is highly likely that all specimens within the hobby existing under the Grammostola pulchra label are actually Grammostola quirogai and that Grammostola pulchra does not exist within the hobby.
